One of the most important gifts we can give our child is the ability for them to feel good about themselves. Self-confidence alone will determine the type of friends they have, their academic achievements, and their level of success in life. Here are eight that are essential.
Give them unconditional love (Love them no matter what they do or don’t do.) Think for yourself, who in your life has loved you unconditionally? How did that feel? Isn’t that what you want for your child? When we love and accept our children regardless of their actions, we send a message to them which allows them to be children, make mistakes and learn from them.
Spend time with them (The time we spend with them is what they appreciate most.)
Treat them with respect (Correct them quietly to avoid embarrassing them.)
Catch them being good (Focus on positive behaviors so they’ll feel good about who they are.
Teach them that mistakes are ok (This enables them to learn and improve.
Help them feel valuable (Ask them to teach you how to do something.
Encourage them often (Belief in a child states that we have confidence in them.
Help them feel powerful (Giving choices provides a sense of power and avoids power struggles.)
By practicing these eight ways to enhance self-esteem children will become happier and behave better.
